If you receive a message and you disable the signal on your phone, nothing will be deleted until you are online again. This means you can read all messages offline and it will only be deleted later.

When you send a message to someone else and their phones are offline you can only delete what they see when they are online again.

Summary

You should always keep an open mind when you send someone a message, you may regret it and want to pull it back. But as you can see, it may not be that easy and your message may still go through after you deleted it.

The bottom line is, for your own peace of mind, keep your wits about you when you send a message.
